Fucking money! It blows a big one, yet we love to blow it!
So here are my thoughts today....this weekend I was at my parents house and my mom said she saw on the news that housing rates right now are really low. So she asked me, why don't you instead of rent, at least try to get a home loan. And so I've been thinking about that. It's a nice idea to dream about. I don't think I'm financially stable enough right now to want to risk such an endeavor though. If roommates were to move out, I may get into a bind and be fucked financially. I don't want that. And this is if the bank were to approve me of a home loan, but I don't think they would with my current debt to income ratio.
So I decided this morning to make it my goal to change that ratio by reducing my debt and ideally increasing my credit score, with buying a house the goal of it all. Over the next year would be great to achieve that goal, but it may take 2 or 3 or more. That will be better determined when I start doing it and make some calculations.
You may be asking yourselves, "But Loki, how do you plan on reducing your debt and increasing your credit score?"
Well I'm glad you ask. I'm going to start with the snowball effect and go from there. I don't know if I'm going to be super strict about it or just pay extra to whatever whenever I have the extra money. I suppose it would just be a couple calculations and some looking at bills to determine which bills and how much I would pay extra each month. So really, it's just a matter of doing it.
As far as building my credit score.....well other then paying off debt, the only way I can think is to get a credit card and utilize it to build my credit score. But I don't know if I want one or not. I've never had one, have never needed one. Do I trust credit card companies/banks? FUCK NO!!! But there aren't many other ways that I know of or can think of to build my credit score.
In conclusion, I guess we'll just see how it works out. I'll start with the snowball effect first and probably get a credit card later when I'm "more worthy" (as far as the bank is concerned).
P.S.- I recommend the link above about the snowball effect and getting out of debt. Here is the link again:
